How to add an AI chatbot to Squarespace (in 5 minutes)

Add an AI chatbot to Squarespace that answers only from your business info: one line in Code Injection, no extension or coding. Free plan, no card.

In short

Create a free Nexoply account, add your business information, and copy the one-line install code from the Chatbot page of your dashboard. In Squarespace, go to Settings → Advanced → Code Injection, paste the code into the Footer box and save. Code Injection is available on the Business plan or higher; with it, the chat button appears on every page of your site. The assistant answers only from the business information you approved, and Nexoply's Free plan (50 conversations a month) needs no credit card.

  • One line of code in Squarespace's Code Injection Footer: no extension, no AI key, no developer.
  • It answers only from your services, prices, FAQs and policies, and says so when it doesn't know.
  • Squarespace needs the Business plan or higher for Code Injection; Nexoply itself has a free plan with no card.
  • Pasted once in the site-wide Footer, it shows on every page and loads after your content.
  • The widget loads asynchronously, sets no cookies and can't break your site.

What you add to Squarespace, and what it does

Nexoply is an AI assistant you build in its own dashboard and add to your Squarespace site with one line of code. Squarespace only holds that line; everything else is set up in Nexoply, without code and without an AI key, because Nexoply runs the AI. In practice:

  • It knows your business. Add your services and prices, FAQs, policies, opening hours and service areas, or import them from your Squarespace site's public pages (15 per scan on the Free plan). Nothing is added until you approve it.
  • It answers only from that information. It's instructed to say when it doesn't know instead of guessing, and every conversation is in your dashboard to review.
  • It matches your site. Message button or side tab, colours, fonts and logo, ready-made templates, a separate look on phones, and start-screen buttons such as Book, Call or WhatsApp.
  • It answers in 12 languages. Visitors who write in another supported language get answers in that language.
  • What it isn't. It's not a live-chat inbox for human agents, and it doesn't take bookings or payments itself; its buttons send visitors to your booking page, phone or WhatsApp.

The Free plan includes 50 conversations a month; paid plans start at $19 a month on the pricing page. For the full list of options, see the chatbot features.

Before you start

Check these three things first:

  • A Nexoply account. Sign up free: the Free plan includes 50 conversations a month, with no card needed.
  • Your business information in Nexoply: services and prices, FAQs, policies, opening hours and service areas. The quickest way is to enter your Squarespace site's address and let Nexoply import your public pages, including pages built with JavaScript. You review the suggestions; nothing is added until you approve it.
  • A Squarespace plan that includes Code Injection: the Business plan or higher. If you're not sure, open the Squarespace settings described below and check whether Code Injection is available on your site.

Step 1: Copy your install code

In your Nexoply dashboard, open the Chatbot page (click Create chatbot if you haven't yet) and copy the installation code. It looks like this:

<script src="https://nexoply.com/widget.js" data-chatbot="YOUR-KEY" async></script>

YOUR-KEY is replaced by your chatbot's own key, which the Chatbot page fills in for you. The key is public: it isn't a password and gives no access to your account. Want to see the assistant before touching Squarespace? Click Open a test page with your chatbot to try it on a sample page.

Step 2: Paste it into Squarespace Code Injection

  1. Open your site's settings

Log in to Squarespace, open the site you want and click Settings.

  2. Go to Code Injection

Open Advanced, then Code Injection. This is the site-wide area, so code placed here runs on every page.

  3. Paste into Footer

Paste your Nexoply code into the Footer box. The footer area is placed just before the end of each page, which is where the code belongs.

  4. Save

Click Save. There's nothing to install and nothing else to configure in Squarespace.

Step 3: Check that it works

Open your live site in a new private window, so you see it the way a visitor does. A chat button appears in the bottom corner. Ask a real question, such as "Do you have vegetarian options?" or "Can I book a table for eight?" (more examples in the AI chatbot guide for restaurants). Within seconds the conversation shows up under Conversations in your Nexoply dashboard. From then on, changes you make in the dashboard reach your site within about a minute, without going back into Squarespace.

Troubleshooting: the chat button doesn't appear

  • Plan. If Code Injection is missing or locked, your site's plan doesn't include it. It needs the Business plan or higher.
  • Wrong box. Open Code Injection again and check that the code sits in the Footer box, complete and unchanged, from <script to </script>.
  • Not saved, or an old view. Make sure you clicked Save, then reload the live site in a private window rather than checking while logged in to the editor.
  • Allowed domains. If you set Only allow on these websites on the Chatbot page, make sure every address visitors use for your site is listed exactly (for example mystudio.com, or *.mystudio.com for subdomains).
  • Chatbot switched off, or ad blockers. Check that the Chatbot enabled switch is on. Rarely, a browser extension blocks chat widgets; try another browser.

Customize the look, then next steps

The design is set in your Nexoply dashboard, not in Squarespace. Under Chatbot → Customize you can choose the message button's icon (or your own image), text label, shape, size, colours and position, or use a side tab on the edge of the screen (such as "Help") instead. You can set a different look on phones, and use page rules to change it on chosen pages (for example /menu/*). Match the chat window to your Squarespace fonts and colours, add your logo, or start from a ready-made template. A start screen can show your own buttons, such as Book, Call or WhatsApp. The widget uses a Shadow DOM, so your site's styles don't change the chat, and vice versa.

Then review conversations regularly: questions the assistant couldn't answer are listed and can become FAQs in one click. Read how Nexoply works for the full picture, or see how to add an AI chatbot to any website if you also run a site on another platform.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add a chatbot to Squarespace without coding?

Yes. You build the assistant in the Nexoply dashboard by adding or importing your business information and choosing its look. The only code is the one line you paste into Squarespace's Code Injection Footer.

Which Squarespace plan do I need?

Code Injection is available on the Business plan or higher, so you need one of those plans to add the chatbot. Nexoply itself has a free plan; the requirement comes from Squarespace.

Is there a free AI chatbot for Squarespace?

Nexoply's Free plan is $0 with 50 conversations a month and no credit card. The Squarespace side needs a plan with Code Injection (Business or higher).

Does it slow down my Squarespace site?

No noticeable effect. The script loads asynchronously, so your page appears first, and it waits until the page is ready. Its code is wrapped so an error can never break your site.

Will it work with my Squarespace template?

Yes. It's added site-wide through Code Injection, so it doesn't depend on the template. It uses a Shadow DOM, so your site's styles don't change the chat, and vice versa.

Can it take bookings on my Squarespace site?

Nexoply doesn't take bookings or payments itself, but it can send visitors to your booking page, phone number or WhatsApp, for example with a Book button on its start screen.
