In short
The best Chatbase alternative depends on why you're leaving. If you want a website assistant that answers from your business information with the AI and conversations included in a flat plan, Nexoply is free for 50 conversations a month and then $19, $49 or $99 a month, with branding removal from $49. For a credit-based builder with more AI models, look at Chatling or Dante AI; for documents and citations, CustomGPT.ai; for developers, Botpress; for human live chat as well, Tidio or Boei. Prices were checked on each vendor's pricing page on October 7, 2026.
- Chatbase is strong on channels, actions and model choice, but bills in message credits and charges $99/month to remove its branding.
- Flat plans built around conversations: Nexoply (AI included, branding removal from $49/month).
- Credit-based builders with free monthly credits: Chatling (200) and Dante AI (100).
- Content-heavy or enterprise needs: SiteGPT and CustomGPT.ai. Developers: Botpress.
- Need people to answer chats too: Boei or Tidio.
How we chose these Chatbase alternatives
Chatbase is an AI agent builder, so the closest alternatives are other tools that train an AI on your content and put it on your website. We read each vendor's pricing page on October 7, 2026 and compared what people usually notice when they leave Chatbase: what the free plan really covers, how usage is counted, what branding removal costs, and how much setup a non-technical owner faces.
Where a vendor shows both billing periods, we give the monthly-billing price first and the annual one in brackets.
What Chatbase does well
Chatbase trains an AI agent on your sources (a website crawl, files, text, Q&A, Notion and more) and deploys it on your website and on channels such as WhatsApp, Slack, Messenger and Instagram. It's genuinely good at:
- Channels: one agent that answers on the website and in messaging apps.
- Actions and integrations: the agent can do things in other tools, not only answer.
- Model choice and languages: you pick the AI model, and it works in many languages.
- Flexibility for technical teams: lots of settings for people who like to tune an agent.
Why some businesses look for a Chatbase alternative
These come from Chatbase's pricing page as of October 7, 2026. They're trade-offs, and whether they matter depends on your traffic and budget.
- Message credits, not conversations. Each AI reply uses credits, and one conversation has several replies, so 50 credits a month on Free covers only a handful of chats.
- Branding removal is expensive. Removing "Powered by Chatbase" is a $99/month add-on, included only on Enterprise.
- A big step from free to paid. Hobby is $40 a month billed monthly ($32 billed yearly) for 700 credits; the next plan, Standard, is $150 ($120).
- Free-plan limits. One agent, 1 MB of training data, branding that can't be removed, and free agents are deleted after 14 days of inactivity.
- Extras add up. Extra agents are $25 a month each, and auto-recharge is $40 per 1,000 credits.
- Builder-style setup. You choose sources, models, actions and channels. That's flexible, but more to configure for a busy owner.

Quick picks by reason for leaving
- "I can't predict what credits will cost": Nexoply counts conversations, not messages, with the AI included.
- "The free plan runs out too fast": Chatling (200 credits a month), Dante AI (100 credits a month), Botpress (100 conversations a month) or Nexoply (50 conversations a month).
- "$99 a month to remove the logo is too much": Boei ($14 add-on), Chatling ($35 add-on), SiteGPT ($39 add-on) or Nexoply (included from Business at $49).
- "I need answers from thousands of pages or documents": SiteGPT or CustomGPT.ai.
- "I want full control and code": Botpress.
- "I need people to answer chats too": Tidio or Boei.
1. Nexoply: best for small business websites that answer on their own
Nexoply starts from your business, not from an agent builder. You enter or import your services and prices, FAQs, policies, opening hours and service areas, review what it found, and the assistant answers visitors only from that. When something isn't in your information, it says so and points to your phone, email or contact page.
- Pricing: Free with 50 conversations a month (up to 30 messages each), no credit card. Starter $19, Business $49 and Pro $99 a month billed monthly, or $190, $490 and $990 billed yearly. Removing "Powered by Nexoply" is included from Business. See the pricing page.
- Strengths: conversations instead of message credits; website import that suggests services with prices, FAQs and policies; 12 languages; one line of code on any website; built-in spam protection that answers junk without using AI.
- Considerations: website only. No WhatsApp, Instagram, email or phone channel, no actions in other tools, no order tracking, no bookings or payments (it links to your booking page, phone or WhatsApp), and no live-chat inbox. One chatbot per business.
- Best for: a local or service business, such as a plumber, salon, clinic or hotel, that wants its website to answer the same questions every day without configuring an agent.
For a side-by-side view, see Nexoply vs Chatbase.
2. SiteGPT: best for large websites and agencies
SiteGPT trains a chatbot on your website and documents, with plans that range from one site to agencies and enterprise. It reads website links, sitemaps, YouTube, files (CSV, TXT, PDF, DOCX, PPTX, MD), Notion, Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, Box and GitHub.
- Pricing: no free plan; a 7-day trial with a credit card. Starter $59 a month billed monthly ($39 annually) for 1 chatbot, 1,000 pages and up to 4,000 GPT-4.1-mini or 400 GPT-4.1 messages a month; Growth $129 ($79); Scale $429 ($259). Branding removal is a $39/month add-on. SiteGPT pricing.
- Strengths: many content sources, high page limits, a public demo bot, integrations with Slack, Messenger, Crisp, Freshdesk and Zoho SalesIQ from Growth.
- Considerations: no free plan; stronger models use your allowance ten times faster; WhatsApp is a $39/month add-on.
- Best for: content-heavy sites and agencies managing several chatbots.
3. Chatling: best low-cost builder with free monthly credits
Chatling is the closest in spirit to Chatbase: a no-code AI agent builder with actions, workflows and a wide choice of models, at lower entry prices.
- Pricing: Free with 200 AI credits a month, 1 agent and the web widget. Starter $25 a month billed monthly ($21 annually) with 1,750 credits and 2 agents; Growth $75 ($63); Scale $295 ($246) with branding removed. Branding removal on other plans is a $35/month add-on, and extra agents are $3 a month. Chatling pricing.
- Strengths: free credits renew monthly, over 80 languages, paid channels including WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram, a 7-day money-back guarantee on the first purchase.
- Considerations: a reply costs 0.5 to 25 credits depending on the model, so it's still a credit system; the bigger models drain credits fast.
- Best for: Chatbase users who like the builder approach but want a cheaper start.
4. Botsonic: best simple chatbot on a budget
Botsonic by Writesonic is a no-code AI chatbot for websites, trained on your pages and documents.
- Pricing: a 7-day trial. Starter $19 a month billed monthly ($16 annually) with 1,000 messages a month; Professional $49 ($41). Removing Botsonic branding costs $49 a month. Botsonic pricing.
- Strengths: a low entry price and a clear monthly message allowance.
- Considerations: no free plan; message caps; branding removal costs more than the Starter plan itself.
- Best for: a single website on a tight budget that can live with the vendor's branding.
5. Dante AI: best for chat plus phone and lead capture
Dante AI offers an AI agent for website chat, phone (voice) and an inbox, with lead capture, aimed at solo founders up to agencies that resell it under their own brand.
- Pricing: free forever with 100 credits a month, 1 agent, 150K characters of knowledge and website chat only (with Dante branding). Starter $40 a month billed monthly ($33 annually) with 2,000 credits; Advanced $120 ($100) adds human handover, lead capture and branding removal; Pro $400 ($333). On Starter, branding removal is a $50/month add-on; extra agents are $20 a month. Dante AI pricing.
- Strengths: a monthly free allowance, light to premium models, voice, white label for agencies.
- Considerations: a turn costs 1 to 25 credits depending on the model (Dante's own example: 2,000 credits are about 2,000 messages on light models, 200 on standard and 80 on premium), and at zero credits the agent shows as offline.
- Best for: businesses that want phone and chat from one AI agent, or agencies.
6. Boei: best when you also want live chat and contact buttons
Boei puts an AI chatbot, a simple live chat and buttons for many contact channels (WhatsApp, email and more) in one widget. It's based in Utrecht with EU data.
- Pricing: no free plan; a 7-day trial without a card. Starter $25 a month billed monthly ($19 annually) with 2,000 AI credits a month, 1 chatbot and 1 live-chat agent; Growth $69 ($49); Business $179 ($129) with branding removed. On Starter and Growth, branding removal is a $14/month add-on. Boei pricing.
- Strengths: one AI reply equals one credit, whatever the model; unlimited human live-chat messages; the cheapest branding add-on we found; a WordPress.org plugin.
- Considerations: no free plan; when credits run out, the AI stops replying until next month, though the widget and live chat keep working.
- Best for: small businesses that want the AI to answer but also want a person and other channels a click away.
7. Botpress: best for developers and agencies
Botpress is a platform for building AI agents with a visual studio, a natural-language builder and an API. If you left Chatbase because you wanted more control, this is the direction to go.
- Pricing: Free with 100 conversations a month. Plus $150 a month billed annually (250 conversations, white-label web chat); Team $750 a month billed annually. Each conversation includes $0.10 of AI usage. Botpress pricing.
- Strengths: very flexible, many integrations, a generous free tier for testing.
- Considerations: a learning curve for non-developers, and the first paid plan is a big step for a small business.
- Best for: developers and agencies building custom agents.
8. CustomGPT.ai: best for document-heavy knowledge with citations
CustomGPT.ai is a retrieval-based agent platform that answers with citations, accepts websites, helpdesks and "1,400+ document formats", and is SOC 2 Type 2 certified. It's aimed more at mid-size and enterprise teams than small websites.
- Pricing: no free plan; a 7-day trial that needs a card and converts automatically. Standard $99 a month billed monthly ($89 annually) with 10 agents and 1,000 queries a month; Premium $499 ($449) with 5,000 queries, website auto-sync and branding removed. CustomGPT.ai pricing.
- Strengths: citations, many source types, 90+ languages, Slack deployment and an API.
- Considerations: a high entry price for a small website; branding removal only from Premium.
- Best for: organisations with large document libraries that need answers they can trace back to a source.
9. Tidio: best if people on your team answer chats too
Tidio is a different kind of product: live chat, a helpdesk and flows, with the Lyro AI agent as an add-on. It belongs on this list for businesses that left Chatbase because they need humans in the loop.
- Pricing: Free with 50 billable conversations a month and 50 Lyro conversations one-off. Starter $29 a month billed monthly ($24.17 annually). Lyro is an add-on from $39 a month billed monthly ($32.50 annually) for 50 Lyro conversations a month; branding removal is an add-on from Growth. Tidio pricing.
- Strengths: live chat and helpdesk for a team, ecommerce integrations such as Shopify, a multichannel inbox.
- Considerations: the AI is priced separately from the plan, and conversations and Lyro conversations are counted on different meters.
- Best for: small teams and online stores where people answer chats during the day.
If Tidio also gives you pause, see the best Tidio alternatives.
Credits, messages, queries and conversations: comparing like with like
Chatbase alternatives count usage in at least five different ways, so a bigger number on one pricing page doesn't mean more chats. Picture a clinic visitor who asks about new-patient forms, parking and the cancellation fee: that's one conversation, three or more replies, and on some tools three or more credits per reply.

When Chatbase is the better choice
Chatbase is still the right pick in several situations, and none of the website-only tools above match it there:
- One AI agent has to answer on WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger or Slack as well as on your website.
- The agent should take actions in other tools, not only answer questions.
- You want to choose and switch between AI models yourself.
- Someone on your team enjoys configuring sources, prompts and integrations.
- Branding doesn't matter to you, or you're on Enterprise where removal is included.
Switching from Chatbase: a checklist
Gather your sources
List the URLs, files, text snippets and Q&A pairs your Chatbase agent was trained on. Keep the Q&A pairs especially: they're your best FAQs.
Export your FAQs and content
Copy your Q&A, policies and price lists into one document, and fix anything out of date. Every alternative answers only as well as the content you give it.
Test with real questions
Ask each candidate 15-20 questions your visitors really ask (a restaurant's "Can you do a gluten-free birthday cake?", a gym's "Can I freeze my membership?") and one it can't know. A good assistant says so instead of guessing.
Compare cost at your volume
Price each tool on your real monthly chats, average replies per chat and the model you'd use, billed monthly or annually.
Check branding
Decide whether "Powered by" can stay. If not, add the removal cost from the table above to each option.
Replace the embed code
Remove the Chatbase script from your site, add the new one, and make sure only one chat widget loads.
Review the first week
Read the conversations, add answers for questions it missed, and only then delete your Chatbase agent.
Try Nexoply with your Chatbase content
If your Chatbase agent mostly answered website visitors, you can rebuild it on Nexoply in minutes: create a free account, enter your website address to import your services, prices, FAQs and policies, paste in your Q&A, and test it on a sample page before you change any code. The installation guide shows where the line of code goes on WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Shopify and other sites. More free options are in the best free AI chatbots for websites.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best free alternative to Chatbase?
As of October 7, 2026, Chatling (200 AI credits a month), Dante AI (100 credits a month), Botpress (100 conversations a month) and Nexoply (50 conversations a month) all have free plans with AI that renews monthly. Nexoply counts whole conversations, while Chatling and Dante count credits per reply, so compare them on your number of chats.
Which Chatbase alternative has the cheapest branding removal?
Among the tools we checked on October 7, 2026, Boei's add-on is the cheapest at $14 a month on its Starter and Growth plans, followed by Chatling ($35) and SiteGPT ($39). On Nexoply it's included in the Business plan at $49 a month. Chatbase charges $99 a month.
What's the difference between message credits and conversations?
A conversation is a whole chat with one visitor; message credits are used up by each reply inside it, sometimes several credits per reply depending on the AI model. A plan with 1,000 credits can therefore cover far fewer than 1,000 conversations.
Is there a Chatbase alternative that also answers on WhatsApp?
Yes. Chatling offers WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Telegram on paid plans, SiteGPT sells WhatsApp as a $39/month add-on, and Boei includes an Email and WhatsApp chatbot on Starter. Nexoply answers on your website only.
Will my Chatbase agent be deleted if I stop using it?
On Chatbase's free plan, agents are deleted after 14 days of inactivity (as of October 7, 2026). Save your sources and Q&A before you stop using it, so you can reuse them in another tool.
Do I need technical skills to switch from Chatbase?
Not for most tools here. With Nexoply you import your website, review the suggestions and paste one line of code into your site. Botpress is the exception: it's built for developers.
Why is Nexoply listed first?
Nexoply publishes this guide, and it's first for one need: a small business website that answers questions on its own, with simple conversation-based pricing. For multi-channel agents, actions, large document libraries or custom development, Chatbase, Chatling, CustomGPT.ai or Botpress fit better.
